Powering the Future of Transport

Powering the Future of Transport

As the UK moves towards a greener future, the transition to electric vehicles (EVs) is accelerating. At AJ Renewables, we provide high-quality EV charger installations to help homeowners and businesses embrace sustainable transport while reducing fuel costs and carbon emissions.

Charging your EV at home with a dedicated EV charger is faster, more efficient, and safer than using a standard 3-pin plug. By integrating an EV charger with a solar and battery system, you can charge your car using the power of the sun, maximizing your energy independence and minimizing your reliance on the grid.

Frequently Asked Questions

You can choose between two types of home EV chargers. The main difference is the lack of a cable or the inclusion of one.

Tethered chargers have a cable permanently attached to the charging box, removing the need for unnecessary rummaging while searching for a separate cable. You can simply pull up to your charging pod, plug the cable into your car, and charge it.

A universal socket unit or an untethered cable requires you to insert your own charging cable into the charge box. These universal socket units are compatible with all plug-in electric vehicles as long as the correct cable is used.

With AJ Renewables, our standard installation package includes the supply of the most ideal product suited to your needs, a comprehensive design and quotation service, and a professional installation.

The cost of an electric vehicle charging station can be around £1,000. However, there are various factors that affect how much it will cost to have a home charging point installed. Usually, the cost depends on:

  • The type of product you choose — choosing a more expensive EV charging product will push up the overall costs

  • The installation team’s labour — more complex jobs will usually cost more

  • Additional labour — the additional labour and tools required may increase the cost

The best way to find out the exact costs involved and how much you’ll pay is to reach out to your local EV charger supplier — AJ Renewables. We work on a fixed price as provided in your quotation. If we arrive on-site and the job is more complicated than originally quoted, we may charge an additional cost — but not without discussing it with you first.

No. Your electrician needs to be authorised by the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) and registered with a Competent Persons Scheme (CPS) — as our installers are. Electricians should have undertaken specialist training for charge point installation and hold the relevant certification.

You don’t usually require planning permission to install a car charging point at home. This, however, depends on whether you’re installing it in a conservation area, a listed building, or if the charger will be faced or fitted within two metres of a highway.

Yes. With the right charger, your EV can be set to use solar-generated electricity first before drawing from the grid. This maximises savings and reduces reliance on traditional energy sources.

No. We can install EV chargers regardless of whether you have solar panels. However, pairing an EV charger with solar PV lets you charge your car directly from renewable energy, reducing costs further.
